Hands-on Gardening Workshops

Seed Starting with Sue Nesbitt

Date: March 26, 10:30-12pm
Location: Yamhill County Fairgrounds
Description: Learn how to successfully start
vegetables and annual flowers from seed and
practice some of the techniques by planting
seeds to grow at home. Supplies will be provided for
you to practice some of the techniques by planting
some seeds to grow at home.
Sue Nesbitt: works every year in the Master Gardener
Greenhouse starting the vegetables and flowers for
our yearly plant sale & is the YCMGA 2022
President.
Hanging Baskets with Melissa McLaughlin
SORRY, REGISTRAION CLOSED, CLASS FULL
Date: April 16, 10:30-12pm
Location: Yamhill County Fairgrounds
Description: You will work to create a 12”
hanging basket for a sunny location at your home.
You will learn about how to design a basket, choose
stunning colorful plants, and care for your basket
once you bring it home. All plants, a basket and
supplies are included with the cost of the workshop.
Melissa McLaughlin is co-owner of Country Garden
Nursery and has been creating spectacular hanging
baskets in McMinnville and beyond since the business
started in 1991.
Raised Beds with Tom Canales
Date: June 4, 10:30-12pm
Location: Ohana Garden and Hydroponics
Description: Participants will learn the basic
knowledge and skills to design and construct a variety
of raised beds: wood frame, galvanized container,
unframed, and mortar block. Topics covered will
include soils, irrigation, what to grow, maintenance
and other tips. Also included will be a hands-on group
experience building a complete raised bed.
Tom Canales is a Yamhill County Master Gardener
with experience building raised beds for community
centers, school gardens, as well as at home.
Irrigation with John Stables & Jeff Fahey
SORRY, REGISTRATION CLOSED, CLASS FULL
Date: June 11, 10:30-12pm
Location: Bottens Equipment Rental
Description: Participants will gain
basic knowledge and skills to design and install
a drip irrigation system for any garden type
including trees and shrubs, vegetables, flowers,
containers and hanging baskets. Included will
be a discussion and demonstration of the design
and components of a drip irrigation system as
well as a hands-on activity building a drip system
for a specific use.
John Stables has 30 years of experience teaching
horticulture, landscape design and irrigation
at both the high school and college level
Jeff Fahey is a Yamhill County Master
Gardener with many years of experience with design
layout and setting up drip irrigation for varied
garden and yard landscapes.
