Step into Black Walnut Farm, an 8-acre ecosystem shaped by decades of thoughtful stewardship. Originally part of a mid-1800s land grant, the property now reflects a “right plant, right place” philosophy with a 10-year perspective. Sweeping contours, intentional plant groupings, and a diverse collection — including 18 Japanese maple cultivars and more than 80 dwarf and specialty conifers — create year-round structure and seasonal interest. With 63 documented bird species and a firm commitment to no insecticides or fungicides, the landscape is as ecologically grounded as it is beautiful.
Master Gardeners will appreciate the balance of ornamentals and productivity: B&B conifers and maples, alongside peaches, berries, black walnuts, and more. Sustainable practices are woven throughout, from net-zero solar energy to low-input turf management. Strong winds and saturated soils have shaped plant choices and pruning philosophy, offering real-world lessons in adaptation, structure, and long-term garden planning. Come ready to observe, ask questions, and leave inspired.
